FaMed is the fastest way to prove the required specialist language skills, for doctors from all countries (EU and third countries).
The requirements for the professional language examination are the same everywhere. All examinations are based on the specifications of the 87th Health Ministers' Conference.
You can already register for the exam with us before you have submitted your application for a licence or permit to practise.
The FaMed Specialist Language Examination Medicine is currently (as of 11/2025) recognised in the following federal states under the criteria provided below.

Human Medicine: Baden-Württemberg accepts it if applicants in the Baden-Württemberg application process provide proof of having passed a specialised language test from other federal states, which is accepted there by the recognition authorities within the recognition procedure according to the relevant specifications of those states.

Can you understand long and complex texts?
You can speak spontaneously and fluently, without frequently searching for words?
Can you express yourself comprehensibly and react flexibly?
Can you clearly, structurally, and comprehensively explain complex matters and respond to follow-up questions?
If you have answered all questions with „Yes“, then your knowledge probably corresponds to the required language level and we recommend you register for the exam.
If you do not pass the exam, you can re-register at any time to take the exam again.

The fee is €530.00
The fee can be paid via PayPal, credit card, direct debit, or bank transfer (via Klarna).
Our examination centre is located at Schillerstraße 26 – 28 (2nd floor) in 55116 Mainz.
Cancellations are possible up to 14 days before the examination date. In this case, a processing fee of 245 Euros will be charged. For cancellations or postponements less than 14 days before the examination date, the examination fee will be forfeited.
Cancellations are free of charge up to 6 weeks before the examination date, minus any transaction fees incurred. For cancellations up to 14 days before the examination date, an administration fee of 265 Euros will be charged, plus any transaction fees incurred. For cancellations less than 14 days before the examination date, the examination fee will be forfeited.
In case of delay or no-show, the examination fee already paid will be forfeited. You must book a new appointment here.
The exam results will generally be communicated to you approximately 4 weeks after the examination.
Please note that the date the results are sent out is generally independent of the examination date. This means, for example, that the results for a specific examination day may be sent out on different dates and not necessarily on the same day.
You will receive your exam results by email, and the tamper-proof certificate will be sent to you digitally.
We are offering two examination formats until 31.07.2024; the certificates are only recognised within their respective federal states.
From 1 August 2024 Will the examination for recognition in Rhineland-Palatinate be conducted in the same way? as for the federal state of Bavaria, so that you can submit your positive exam result in both Rhineland-Palatinate and Bavaria.
Please contact us by email if you require a certificate for another federal state, as participation in the Rhineland-Palatinate examination format requires a B2 certificate.
For exam registration in Rhineland-Palatinate, uploading a B2 certificate is required.
To avoid conflicts of interest, as an independent company, we are unable to provide recommendations for preparation courses. However, we have established quality criteria that language schools must meet to be listed by us as a recognised language school for FaMed.
